You’re Not Alone — Recognizing PTSD in Veterans

PTSD is a normal response to abnormal, traumatic experiences — not a weakness or a character flaw. Symptoms can surface months or even years after service, and they are treatable. Recognizing what you’re living with is the first step toward getting your life back.

Re-experiencing & hypervigilance

  • Flashbacks, intrusive memories, or nightmares
  • Feeling constantly “on guard,” keyed up, or easily startled
  • Avoiding crowds, places, or reminders of what happened
  • Trouble sleeping or staying asleep

Mood & emotional changes

  • Irritability, anger, or a short fuse
  • Feeling numb, detached, or emotionally shut down
  • Loss of interest in things you used to enjoy
  • Guilt, shame, or blaming yourself for what happened

Coping concerns

  • Drinking or using substances to quiet your mind
  • Pulling away from family, friends, or fellow veterans
  • Difficulty concentrating or holding down routines
  • Thoughts of harming yourself — call the Veterans Crisis Line at 988 and press 1 right away

When PTSD goes untreated

Trying to “tough it out” alone often makes symptoms harder to carry over time. With the right support, most veterans experience meaningful relief.

How We Support Veterans Living With PTSD

We meet you where you are with flexible outpatient care built around your life — in person at our DeSoto and Charlotte County locations. Care is confidential and paced to what you’re ready for.

  • Trauma-focused therapy: Evidence-based therapy to process traumatic experiences and reduce their grip on daily life.
  • Dual-diagnosis & co-occurring care: Many veterans face PTSD alongside depression, anxiety, or substance use. We treat these together rather than as separate problems.
  • Flexible outpatient care: Individual therapy, group support, and our Intensive Outpatient Program — all without an overnight stay.

You don’t have to have all the answers before you call. A conversation is enough to start.
