You’re Not Alone — Recognizing Postpartum Depression & Anxiety

Perinatal mood and anxiety symptoms are common and treatable — they can appear during pregnancy or any time in the first year after birth. Recognizing the signs is the first step toward feeling like yourself again.

Emotional signs

  • Persistent sadness, tearfulness, or emptiness
  • Feeling overwhelmed, irritable, or on edge
  • Guilt or a sense that you’re “not a good enough” parent
  • Difficulty bonding with your baby

Physical & daily-life signs

  • Sleep problems beyond normal newborn disruption
  • Changes in appetite or energy
  • Trouble concentrating or making decisions
  • Withdrawing from partner, family, or friends

Anxious or intrusive thoughts

  • Constant worry about the baby’s health or safety
  • Racing thoughts or panic
  • Unwanted, scary thoughts that feel out of character
  • Thoughts of harming yourself (please call 988 right away)

When symptoms go untreated

Perinatal mood and anxiety concerns rarely resolve by “pushing through.” With support, most parents feel meaningfully better.

How We Support New & Expecting Moms

We meet you where you are with flexible outpatient care designed to fit around a newborn and family life — in person at our Port Charlotte and Arcadia locations.

  • Individual therapy: Evidence-based talk therapy to work through mood, anxiety, adjustment, and the identity shifts of new parenthood.
  • Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP): Structured group and individual support when symptoms need more than weekly therapy — without an overnight stay away from your baby.
  • Medication management: Psychiatric evaluation and medication support when appropriate.

As part of the DeSoto Memorial Hospital system, your care can be coordinated with your broader medical team when needed.

Is Outpatient Treatment Right for You?
