Mental Health Matters

Dementia or Alzheimer’s Disease… which is it?
Dementia is a general term for cognitive decline that affects memory, reasoning, and daily functioning. It is caused by various conditions, including Alzheimer’s disease, which is the most common type. Alzheimer’s is a progressive brain disorder characterized by abnormal protein deposits, leading to memory loss, confusion, and personality changes. While dementia is an umbrella term covering multiple disorders, Alzheimer’s is a specific disease with distinct stages. Other types of dementia include vascular, Lewy body, and frontotemporal dementia. Early diagnosis, treatment, and support can help manage symptoms and improve quality of life. Understanding the differences between these two terms is important for accurate diagnosis and treatment.

Is Your Spouse in the Friend Zone?
Friend-zoning your spouse happens when emotional intimacy shifts from romance to platonic companionship. While strong friendship is key in marriage, lack of passion can create distance. Signs include feeling more like roommates than lovers, prioritizing others over your partner, or lacking physical affection. To rekindle the spark, prioritize quality time, communicate openly about needs, and introduce new experiences together. A thriving marriage balances friendship and romance, ensuring emotional closeness doesn’t replace deeper intimacy.
